How to Feng Shui Your Bedroom
Chi, or energy, is at the center of life in Chinese philosophy. Your bedroom is more than just a place for you to sleep in; it is a center of many activities in your life. You can use the ancient Chinese system of feng shui to bring positive energy to your bedroom.
What is Feng Shui?
Feng shui is translated as “wind and water.” It is a part of the extensive range of Chinese philosophy, and deals with directing postive chi in daily life. In the Western sense, feng shui is part of aesthetics and design; a room in a house, for example, can be redesigned in such a way that positive energy flows freely all over the living space, and negative energy is blocked out.
Some people pay feng shui experts big money for consultation, although you can use some of the basic principles of feng shui to redecorate your bedroom. You can buy feng shui books from a bookstore, or you can apply some of these helpful tips to make sure your home is always on the right path to serenity and positive energy.
Arrangement
Almost all bedrooms have beds and end-tables. You can use these three elements to set the setting for a bedroom that fits the suggestions of good feng shui:
Make sure that the head or the foot of the bed is not in line with a doorway or a window.
Instead of lining up a side of the bed against the wall, prop the bed in such a way that you can approach it from either side.
Place two end tables on either side of the bed.
From this arrangement, you can then organize the rest of the bedroom to make sure positive chi flows smoothly and easily all over the place.
Positive, Natural Energy
A key component of feng shui is nature. One way to introduce natural energy to your bedroom is to make it one with nature:
Try natural light like skylight or wide windows.
Use lighting fixtures with dimmer switches that you can adjust depending on your mood.
Move the television set, computer, and other distracting electronic devices to another room in your house, like the den or the home office.
Use natural color schemes when you paint your room. Earth tones are particularly soothing and comfortable.
Feng shui may seem to be superstition, but it does provide some practical tips to make your bedroom a more confortable place to sleep and spend time in. With these tips, you can bring in positive energy into any room in your home.
