How to Build a Brick Wall
How to Build a Brick Wall
It may not seem as easy as it sounds, but building a brick wall requires the right material and effort in order to have one that will stand for years. You would obviously need to be cautious of the fact that a brick wall should be able to survive all climatic conditions so that you don’t spend most of your time repairing cracks that appear on the wall here and there.
Before you start building the brick wall, it is necessary that you buy the right cement and bricks because the longevity of the wall will certainly depend upon the quality of the material that is used to make the brick
wall.
Materials
The materials needed for building a brick wall include the following:
Cement
Bricks (the number of bricks required depends upon the length and the width of the wall)
Measuring tape
Shovel
Trowel
Method
Once you have these materials at your disposal, it is necessary to build a concrete footing on which the wall which will stand so that the wall is vertically aligned. In order to make the concrete footing it is necessary to clear the area to ensure that there are no obstacles intruding with the construction of the wall.
Once the concrete flooring has dried, mark the length of the concrete footing so as to ensure that the wall will be perfectly aligned. Wet the bricks so that they don’t draw any water from the concrete flooring. Mark the area upon which the wall is to be built with a chalk line.
You should build the brick wall from the corner of the concrete flooring, rather than the middle. The corner will enable you to estimate the distance of the wall as you construct.
You will now need to fix the bricks together with the cement. This might not sound as easy as it looks because one has to carefully look for the spacing between the bricks. Place the bricks one after the other in sequence without any gap between them. Cement should be placed under these bricks so as to give them a firm grounding. These bricks are going to be the base of the wall so it is important to ensure that adequate cement is placed at the base so as to allow a strong base.
Once you have finished laying the bricks half way through the concrete floor, it is necessary to add the first layer of bricks on the base. Again, it is important to ensure that there is no significant amount of spacing between the bricks, which might loosen the strength of the wall.
After finishing each layer of bricks, it is necessary to ensure that the bricks are perfectly aligned to each other. You can do this by taking the 1/8-inch cord from one end of the bricklayer to the other. If the cord stretches vertically from one end to the other, then you have a perfectly aligned wall. Let the cement on the wall dry.
Follow this method on laying each layer of brick, one after the other. Your brick wall will soon be completed.
