How to Install a Toilet
The toilet is a plumbing fixture used for disposing body wastes such as feces and urine. If you want to replace your toilet without calling and paying someone to do it for you, then all you have to do is read through this guide and you’ll know how to do it correctly.
Things You’ll Need:
Toilet bowl
Toilet tank
Caps
Flange bolts
Seal
Wrench
Socket set
Level
Steps:
Most toilets you buy in the market come together with all the necessary materials that you will need, and an instruction manual. Go over the instructions first and buy the materials needed that are not included in the package. It would also be helpful and much more easier to have someone with you when doing this task.

Make sure that the water is turned off.
Flush the toilet to drain the tank and take out any excess water.
Unplug the water supply tube from the shut-off valve and empty the water from the tube.
Remove the coupling nut on the supply tube at the bottom of the tank.
Take out your old tank by loosening its screws from the bowl with screwdriver and a wrench for unfastening the nuts.
Break the seal between the floor and the bowl by moving the bowl from left to right and gently lifting the bowl, tipping it a little forward to avoid water from spilling on the floor.
Check that the hole in the floor is big enough to fit the flange up to its neck. If you need to have a bigger hole, trace around the flange’s base and cut the excess.
Cover the drain pipe with a cloth and remove the remaining wax seal on the floor with a knife.
Carefully place the new toilet upside down and put a new wax gasket on the bottom part of it.
Take out the cloth from the drain pipe and gently lower the bowl in place by pressing down firmly.
Insert and secure the bolts. Try not to tighten the bolts too much, to avoid the the bowl from cracking.
Make sure that the bowl is positioned properly. You may use a level to check whether or not the bowl is straight.
Install washers and nuts.
Put enough plumber’s putty in the caps and place them over the end of the bolts.
Set up the flush valve within the tank.
Place the tank just above the bowl and secure the bolts.
Connect the supply tubes and turn the shutoff valve to open it.
Reconnect the water line.
Turn on the water supply.
Check for leaks:
If there are leaks from the tank, check the bolts between the tank and the base.
Check that the flange is secured tightly on the floor if water is coming from the base.
If the leak is passing from the water source, check the connection of the water line.
The installation process can take a whole day if you’re new at the task, or half a day if you are skilled already. It looks hard to do but when you know the right steps and you have all the materials, it won’t be as difficult as it looks!
