How to Replace Your Car’s Rear View Mirror
Want to replace your car’s rear view mirror and save some cash in the process? Do it on your own! Don’t wait around for someone to replace it. Here’s how.
Materials
Rear view mirror attachment kit
Felt pen
Razor blade
Rubbing alcohol
Screwdriver
Alcohol
Paper towels
Procedure
Buy a rear view mirror attachment kit, available in most auto parts stores.
Park your car in a shady place where the temperature is anywhere 50 to 75 degrees Celsius. This is done to prevent the adhesive from setting too strongly on the glass.
Locate the metal button on your rear view mirror and use the screwdriver to remove it.
Use the razor blade to remove or scrape off any remaining glue from the windshield.
Use the felt pen to mark where the button goes on the outside of the windshield.
Get your rear view mirror attachment kit and open the adhesive. Cut the top off open using the razor blade.
Take the vial of adhesive using your razor blade and squeeze just enough of it on the button. Don’t put too much.
Press the button on the glass, exactly on the spot you marked using the felt pen. Make sure that the curved part of the button’s U-shape is facing upward.
Hold the button in place using a firm pressure for around one minute. When you remove your hand, the button should be in place. If not, repeat Steps 7-8.
Wait for another 30 minutes to an hour, and then reattach the rear view mirror to the button. Slide the attachment receptacle and push down firmly until you hear a click.
Clean the mirror using alcohol and paper towels. Clean the area around where the mirror is attached to the button.
Leave it to settle more for another hour, and then adjust accordingly.
