How to Wash Shower Curtain Liner
Mold or dirt that has accumulated in the curtain liner of your bathroom will give your bathroom a dingy look. Bathrooms (and kitchens) should be the cleanest areas of any home. Moldy or dirty shower curtain liners, besides being unhygienic, can cause this private space to look messy. The shower curtain liners, since they usually line a bathtub or shower, are vulnerable to moisture attacks. That is why soap foam builds up very easily, and mildew tends to form. It is, therefore, necessary to clean the shower curtain liners frequently to prevent both mildew and soap froth formation. Although washing the shower curtain liners may seem too much of a chore, you can do it yourself with these simple instructions.
Required Materials
Vinegar
Baking soda
Detergent
Bleach
Two bath towels
Cold water
Required Tools
Washing machine
Instructions
Removing the curtain liner: Remover the curtain liner from the rings it is attached to or zip it off just below the rings.
Preparing the washing machine: Prepare your washing machine by filling it with water up to the neck. Use the “gentle” setting.
Adding cleansers: Add the required amount of detergent to the water tub, and give it a turn for the detergent to mix well.
Preparing for wash: Put two bath towels into the tub. The towels will act as the scrubbers for your shower curtain liner and ensure a better wash.
Washing the shower curtain liner: Add the shower curtain liner to the wash tub and set the timer on.
Adding baking soda: Add half a cup of baking soda to the tub during the wash cycle.
Adding the bleach: Add half a cup of color-sensitive bleach to remove the mildew and mold in the shower curtain liner.
Adding vinegar: Add half a cup of vinegar to the shower curtain liner during the rinse cycle. (Adding the vinegar to the washing machine while the baking soda is still there could cause a dangerous chemical reaction; please make sure to wait for the rinse cycle before adding vinegar.)
Drying the shower curtain liner: Let the shower curtain liner out of the rinse tub, and let it drip dry instead of putting it into the dryer. Machine drying is not recommended for shower curtain liners. Affix it to its position is drip drying in the home is a problem.
Tips and Warnings
Specific-quality shower curtain liners come with specific wash instructions. The best conditions for washing shower curtain liners may differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. It is recommended that you follow these instructions for best results.
Check the shower curtain liner labels and washing particulars to make sure that the chemicals will not cause any harm to the liner material or cause it to crack.
You may use lukewarm water for a better wash, but using too much hot water may cause the shower curtain liner to melt.
