How to Make Ice
Everyone wants to have cold drinks on hot, sunny days, so many people indulge by filling their glasses with blocks and blocks of ice cubes. If you go to restaurants and diners, ice is readily available, but if you’re at home, do you know how to make your own? If not, here’s an easy way to create ice which you can enjoy.
What You’ll Need:
Water
Ice cube trays
Refrigerator
Ice bucket
Procedure:
Choose the ice cube trays to use. Ice cube trays come in different shapes and sizes, to suit different tastes. Square cubes are the most common ones, but if you want something that easily releases the ice, opt for the type with rounded corners. These let go of the ice easier. Also, check the flexibility of the trays and make sure they won’t break even when they’re twisted.
Fill the ice cube tray with water, being careful not to tip and spill the liquid. Depending on your preference, you can use plain tap, filtered or bottled water. If you want to end up with really clear ice cubes, get some distilled water, then boil it. The ice trays you use should also be a bit smaller than the usual kind.
Put the ice cube trays in the refrigerator freezer. Make sure they don’t spill. Wait for a few hours. The freezing time of the water depends on the temperature of your freezer. The lower it is, the quicker the ice freezes.
You know the ice has frozen completely when you take a look at the trays and you don’t see any water moving within the cubes. When it has, take out the trays, then slowly twist them, to release the cubes. If they have a firm hold, run them under the sink for a few seconds then try again. They’ll be slightly melted, but will be released easily. Catch them with an ice bucket.
Ice is only frozen water, and not very hard to make. Remember these quick and easy steps so you’ll always have ice cubes ready for any drink!
