How to Make a Bed Canopy
A bed canopy can turn a normal bed into an object that seemingly came out of a fairy tale. The surrounding curtain creates a majestic impression, making the bed look grand, regardless of the room’s theme. Interested? Creating a canopy for your bed isn’t too hard. You just need curtain rods, a curtain panels, carpentry tools, and some carpentry skills to construct one.
Selecting Curtain Panels
Ideally, the curtain panels should look relaxing and elegant, not to mention blend with your room’s theme. Sheer panels with muted colors are a popular choice, since they suit many room styles and produce a subtle sexy vibe. White is a safe color, but if you want your bed to look grand, you can go for beige, red or light peach. For the rods, cafe curtain rods are good choices, given that they are cheap, easy to assemble, and they don’t look shabby.
Assemble the Curtain Rods

Place two rods right behind the headboard while the other two must be several inches to a foot away from the foot of the bed. The ones behind the headboard are to be installed onto the wall for added support, in effect, stabilizing the other two rods as well. Check the if the whole structure is stable before proceeding.
Hang the Panels
Check the measurement of the curtain panels. They should be slightly longer than the distance between the tops of the rods and the floor. Place curtain hooks on the top portion of the drape then hang it onto a dowel. Do the same for the other panels. Once done, stretch the curtains, so they enclose the bed completely.
Room Adjustments
Even if the bed canopy is made to suit many room themes, you should still arrange your furniture to highlight its elegance. Place or install a fairly dim lights near the bed, preferably by the headboard and by the foot. Put the lights on stylish wooden tables, which are perennial partners of canopy beds. Arrange the nearby furniture on the other end of the room, making the bed your room’s centerpiece. When everything is in place, you’ll be surprised at how a bed component can turn your room into a royal venue.
