How to Make a Camera Tripod
You don’t need a fancy and expensive tripod to make that shot. You can make a reliable tripod of your own using simple and everyday materials. Here’s how to make two kinds of homemade tripods:
Plastic Bottle Tripod
Tools
Camera
Two-litre bottle
Washer
Drill
Screw
Water or sand
Procedure
Your camera has three holes underneath it that is meant to attach to the top of the tripod. Check those holes to determine the thread and the screw size they are compatible with.
Purchase the appropriate screws, washers and drill bit for your camera.
Remove the plastic lid off the bottle. Fill the bottle with water. If you don’t want to use water, sand should work as well.
Attach the drill bit and drill a hole through the bottle’s lid. Attach the screw to the washer, then insert it in the hole you made on the lid.
The screw should be inserted from the bottom of the lid. The end result should result with the head of the screw and the washer tight on the bottom side and the longer end of the screw jutting out from the top of the lid.
Find the tripod holes in the bottom of your camera and screw it to attach to the plastic bottle lid.
With the camera attached, screw on the plastic bottle lid on the bottle filled with water or sand.
The water or sand should keep the bottle steady, and you are now ready to use your tripod as you please.
Pocket-Sized Tripod
Tools
Three pieces of stiff wire, a little more over ten inches long. Copper house wiring is the best for this purpose.
Washer and screw appropriate for your camera
Pliers
Electrical tape
Procedure
Wrap electrical tape around each time, making ten layers of electrical tape all throughout, except for two inches at the end of the stiff wire.
Use the pliers to make a U-shape at the uncovered part of the stiff wires.
Wrap electrical tape around the bolt very tightly, right below the head but half an inch before the threading.
Place the head of the bolt side by side the U-shaped end of the stiff wire. The tip of the U-shape should be facing the bottom part of the bolt’s head.
Wrap electrical tape around the two to attach them, winding the tape two or three times. Wrap tightly.
Attach the two stiff wires in the same manner, forming the three legs of a conventional tripod.
Make sure that you’ve attached everything tightly.
You can use the stiff wire’s flexibility to wrap the legs of your homemade tripod around any stable object.
Don’t screw on the camera too tightly!
