How to Make a Small Room Seem Bigger
A small room may be dainty, given a good set of amenities, but you know it stands to better if only it were a bit bigger. Extending the room requires much work and repairs, since you also have to alter the ones beside it. So what can you do at this point? Given that extension is out of the question, your best option is to maximize your room’s space to make it seem bigger. How? Just rearrange the furniture, as you add or replace some of fixtures with space-saving items.
Reposition Large Furniture
Large fixtures can make a small room even smaller if they are oddly positioned. The space around them is too meager to be used, resulting in the other structures cluttered around the room. You’ll immediately feel the congestion upon entering such a room. Remedy this scenario by properly repositioning large furniture.
The Bed - The bed should be placed near a corner, right beside the wall, if possible. Place a small table, holding the night light, beside the bed’s top portion. Leave some space between the bed and the other furniture, so you can freely move around that corner.
The Closet - The closet should be placed adjacent to the bed. Since free space is provided around the bed area, you might as well combine it with the space required by your closet. In effect, your room will be more spacious, with the free space maximized.
Apply the same logic with the other large items in your room. If you effectively use corners and maximize the free space, your room won’t look small at all.
Add Space Savers
Some furniture pieces simply take up too much space, regardless of repositioning. They can be replaced with the smaller, more compact items sold at furniture stores. Small plastic or fabric-based closets can hold a haul of clothing while consuming only a small portion of your room. The same goes with folding shelves, which are used for storing books, makeup and other accessories. These space-saving alternatives give you enough space to even add more amenities to your room.
Multipurpose Containers
Multipurpose containers, which come in the form of large covered boxes, are perhaps your biggest allies. They are used to eliminate clutter, aside from storing a multitude of small items. If you have more than one multipurpose container, you can segregate the things scattered around. Your room, as a result, will look neat, making it seem larger in the process.
With these three simple measures, you can make any small room spacious, without altering its size. Apply them in your room and you’ll realize, a large space isn’t needed after all.
