Procedure
Hold the racquet properly by grasping it tightly and forming a V-shape with the base of your thumb and index finger (For more information on badminton racquets, read The guide to badminton racquets). If your index and thumb overlap, make sure your thumb is over your index finger.
Toss a coin to decide on who will serve first.

The badminton court is divided into four sections. When serving, you should stand on the right side section in your side.
You must use an underhand serve aimed for the diagonal box from the right side box. If you’re playing doubles, serve short (making the birdie go near the net on the opposite side) and if you’re playing singles, serve far (making the birdie go as near to the edge of the court without going over it).
You can only count points made on your serve.
Force your opponent to fail to smash back the birdie by directing the birdie away from your opponent without going out of the court.
You can gain a point if your opponent fails to smash back the birdie, hits the birdie out of the court, hits the birdie into the net, hits the shuttle with his or her body or hitting it before it even crosses the net.
If your opponent committed any of these point-gaining mistakes but they were the ones who served, you do not get any points, but you will have to serve the birdie (For more information badminton birdies, read The guide to badminton birdies). A consecutive mistake will earn you one point and control of the birdie serve.
Try to hit the birdie at its highest point, but if you are unsure where it is headed, try to go for its base line or the lowest point before it hits the ground.
Use your wrist, not your arm, to dictate the strength in your racquet.
Try a variety of ways to hit the birdie, with appropriate strength behind it.
For a game of doubles, keep within each others’ sections in the court. In singles, if you are offensive, stay at the far side of your area from the net. If you are defensive, stay nearer the net.
In a doubles game, it’s always best to have communication to your partner by shouting when to chase a birdie or to leave it to you.
The team or individual who scores 15 points first, wins that round.
The team or individual who scores two wins in three rounds wins the game.
