Badminton is all about hustling a shuttle halfway in the air and hitting it as hard as you can to get it back to where it belongs, the other side of the net. Do that again and again to win a set; win as many sets as possible to win the match and the game. Before we talk about winning, are you familiar with the different kinds of badminton shots?
Drop shot – This stroke causes the shuttle to soar upwards before dropping at a rapid pace near the net. The drop shot is an intermediate level stroke.
Smash - A strong overheard shot that causes the shuttle to spike downwards as soon as it hits the racquet. The smash is badminton’s primary offensive stroke.
Drive - A quick and low shot where the shuttle makes a horizontal flight just above the height of the net. Considered by many as a purely offensive stroke.
Serve - Also defined as the start of a rally, the serve is the initial stroke used to put the shuttle into play.
Long drop – An offensive and defensive stroke, the long drop is used when the shuttle is expected to fall at the back of the court near the service line. Move backwards and position yourself near or on top of the drop spot and hit the shuttle just strong enough so it flies over very near the height of the net.
