How Magnetism Works
Magnetism is a physical force. It causes certain objects to attract or repel another object. This mainly occurs in objects of metallic composition. Magnetism is caused by the motion and movement of electrical charges.

Materials that carry magnetic properties are called magnets. There are two poles in every magnet. These poles are the areas of magnetic concentration.

The poles are known as either north or south. Magnets are sometimes classified as magnetic dipoles because of the two poles. They also resemble the electric dipoles.

The same poles of different magnets tend to repel one another. Unlike poles attract and pull each other. This is the law of magnetic poles.

C. A. Coulomb, a scientist from the 18th century, discovered that magnetic forces of two poles are governed by the law of inverse-square.

The law affirms the attraction and repulsion forces of the two poles are directly equivalent to the product of the amount of strength of both poles. It is also inversely equivalent to the squared measure between the said poles.

Magnetic fields are areas in a given space. These are found when there is a magnetic force. The poles of the Magnet have the strongest magnetic fields.

The magnetic force influences objects. These are located in the magnetic field. The objects may either be attracted by the force or they may repel it.

Magnetism is rooted to the magnetic properties of the electron. Electrons by nature can be compared to magnets. An object’s numerous electrons are oriented randomly. This makes them non magnetic.

Electrons of magnets face the same direction. It makes them all pull in a collective force. This is the source of the magnetic force.

There is an amazing fact about magnets when it gets broken. The broken pieces would still have a north and a south pole. A magnet would always have two poles even if it breaks into several pieces.
