Thanksgiving is almost here. Prepare for this special event by personalizing your thanksgiving table. Involve your whole family in decorating your table. Here are a few tips you can follow to make personalized turkey table decorations.
When planning for decorations, remember to stick to your thanksgiving theme by gathering and buying materials with autumn colors.
Turkey Table Centerpieces
Candles and Flowers
Materials:
Candle sticks
Different sizes of candle holders made of wood or rustic metal.
A bowl
Fresh flowers and autumn leaves
Steps:
Gather fresh flowers from your garden or buy some in flower boutiques.
Arrange these flowers in a pretty bowl. Use leaves and twigs as ornaments for the bowl.
Place the bowl of flowers in the center of the table.
Put the candlesticks in the candle holders.
Get the 2 tallest ones and place them on each side of the bowl.
Space out the rest of the candles on the table.
A Pumpkin Centerpiece
Materials:
1 big pumpkin
4-6 medium size pumpkins
A dozen of small pumpkins
Autumn leaves
Ribbons
Steps:
Wrap ribbons around the pumpkins and make pretty bows on the center of each pumpkin.
Place the large pumpkin in the center of the table
Surround the large pumpkin with the medium-sized pumpkins. Make sure to space them properly. Don’t put them too close to the large pumpkin.
Position the small pumpkins on the spaces between the medium-sized pumpkins.
Scatter the autumn leaves around your arrangement.
A Turkey Centerpiece
Materials:
Mitten
Sock
Scrap cloths or cotton
Glue
Scissors
Red, yellow and gold felt paper
old doll’s eyes
Steps:
Ask your kids to do this with you.
Fill the mitten with scrap cloths or cotton. Do the same with the sock. The mitten will be the turkey’s feathers and the sock will be its head.
Put the opening of the sock inside the mitten.
Slightly bend the sock and try to form a good head.
Secure the end of the mitten with a glue.
With the felt papers, draw and cut the beak, eyes, feet and other parts of the turkey.
Glue this on the head.
You can use the eyes of your child’s old doll for the turkey’s eyes.
Wait for the glue to dry.
Thanksgiving Placemats
Nature mats
Materials:
2 pieces of wax paper
Autumn leaves and twigs
Flowers
Iron
Steps:
Measure the wax papers and cut it to the size that you want.
Put leaves, twigs and flowers on a wax paper. Use a clear glue to secure them into place.
Cover this with the other wax paper.
Iron the edges. Make sure that they are lined up properly.
Cut the edges so that you have a neat lining.

Construction paper
Wax paper
Old magazines, newspapers, pictures
Crayons and markers
Steps:
Ask your whole family to look for pictures that they are thankful for.
Measure the wax papers and cut it to your desired size and shape.
Draw and cut out different designs on your construction paper.
Paste your pictures and cut outs on a wax paper.
Place the other wax paper on top and line them up properly.
Iron and trim the edges.
You may also ask your family to write their names on their mats. After dinner, ask them to exchange placemats with one another. This will serve as a very good thanksgiving gift for everyone.
Thanksgiving Napkin Rings
Make your dinner more personal by making your own napkin rings.
Shower Rings
Materials:
Small shower curtain rings
Ribbons
Glue
Beads
Steps:
Glue one end of the ribbon on your shower curtain ring.
Cover the ring with the ribbon.
Glue the other end of the ribbon to secure it into place.
Make a small bow and glue this on the ring. This will be the center of your napkin ring.
If your using a plain ribbon, use beads to style up the ribbon and tie the ends so that the beads don’t fall out.
Tissue Roll Napkin Rings
Materials:
Tissue Rolls
Colored paper
Japanese paper with a color that matches the colored paper you want to use.
Glue
Scissors
Beads and other ornaments like autumn leaves and twigs.
Steps:
Cut the tissue roll in half. This will give you two rings to work on.
Cover each roll with colored paper. Use glue and let it dry.
Wrap the roll with a Japanese paper. Secure it with a glue and wait for it to dry.
Use leaves, twigs and beads for the design of your napkin rings.
