A pillow is like a hug; you always feel pampered whenever you sleep with a pillow. As you lay your head on a fat pillow, the pillow’s soft surface gently cradles you to sleep. Pillows even feel more soothing when you cuddle them. You might as well make a few, especially if you are troubled by sleepless nights.
Pillows are pretty common in shopping centers. You will see more than one store or stall that sells pillows if you walk around your local mall. Normally, pillows are quite cheap. You can always buy a good one if your pillows at home begin to deteriorate. However, pillows are also easy to create, which is why your best option is to actually make your own pillows if most of the necessary materials are readily available.
To create your own pillow, you should have basic skills in sewing. You should also be accurate with the measurements because several errors can create uncomfortable grooves in your pillow. Even if the pillow is simple to make, you should still be careful in all of the creation procedures.
Materials Used:
fabric (cotton, linen, or any fabric of your choice) – 1.5 meters
cotton stuffing
zipper
needle
thread
scissors
pencil
tape measure
First things first, you should gather all the necessary materials for your pillow. Visit a fabric store and grab the fabric, cotton stuffing and the zipper of your pillow. As for the sewing equipment, just go to any needlework store and get your fill of sewing items.
When you have all of the necessary materials, measure your fabric and mark your pillow’s dimensions (20 x 26 in) with your pencil. Cut a pair of sheets according to the dimensions. Those sheets will later become the two faces of your pillow. Now, get your needle and thread to sew the sheets together. Leave one side open since you will need an opening where you will place the pillow stuffing. Remember to affix both pillow faces carefully since a wrong stitch can give an unwanted escape point for the stuffing.
When you have attached both faces of your pillow, get your zipper and check if it opens up and closes smoothly. Connect the zipper to the opened side of your pillow with your sewing equipment. When finished, get the bag of cotton stuffing. Fill your pillow with stuffing until you get your desired pillow height.
At this point, your pillow is almost ready. All it needs is a nice pillow case that suits the patterns of most of your bed sheets. Get the remainder of your fabric supply and mark the dimensions (20.5 x 27 in) of your pillow case. Once done, cut out two sheets that bear the pillow case’s dimensions. Sew the sheets together, but leave one side open. The opened side will be the entry point of your pillow.
When the pillow case has been sewn together, slide the pillow in and get ready to have a good night’s rest tonight. Consider every night a good night now that you have your pillow.
