A baby is curious and will walk around the house barefoot if you let him. However, the continuous exposure to such a cold surface can cause colds and great discomfort. Most of the time, you will find your baby crying after strolling around the living room for hours. You should make your little tyke a pair of baby socks to protect him from the cold temperature. The process may be a bit tedious but you probably want nothing more than to make your baby happy.
Baby’s feet are sensitive parts of a baby’s body, which is why baby socks are built to protect the baby’s feet from extreme temperatures and friction from the inner surface of the baby’s shoes. Usually made of cotton, baby socks are stretchable so that they will properly stick to the baby’s cute little feet even if the baby loves to play a lot. If you plan to make a pair of baby socks, you should never forget to apply the aforementioned properties so that your baby’s feet are completely protected.
You will need to sew a lot when you make a pair of baby socks. Precision and consistency are the two main keys to create a pair of socks. If you carefully focus on each stitch, you should be able to finish a pair in no time.
Materials Used:
stretchable cotton thread – 4 spools
elastic lining – 2 ft
needle
thread
scissors
Purchase Materials
The initial step is to purchase all of the materials that you will need to create a pair of baby socks. Go to a sewing store and purchase four spools of stretchable cotton and a two foot band of elastic lining. Get a sewing needle and a roll of thread as well.
Select a Pattern
When all the materials are ready, you have to think of a pattern for your baby socks. Babies love cartoon characters and cutesy animal patterns on their clothes. Your best move is to stick to that standard so that your baby will be happy to wear the pair of socks that you are about to make. If you cannot think of a good pattern, you can check the internet for the hottest sock patterns on the market. Once done, sketch the pattern comprehensively on a piece of paper so that you will have a guide while you sew.
Weave to Form Socks
When the baby sock pattern is ready, get your needle and cotton thread. Weave the general form of the socks in accordance to their dimensions (14 x 9.2 x 6.8 cm) and the pattern that you sketched awhile ago. Once done, place the elastic lining near the top portion of the sock and cover it with the overlapping layer of cotton. Align the elastic lining properly inside the cotton layer. Finally, seal the elastic lining within the cotton with the use of your needle and thread to finish your pair of baby socks.
With your baby’s new pair of socks, he can now walk or crawl around the house with a smile on his face for hours. No more tears for baby.
