How to Soothe a Crying Baby
Babies can’t talk, and the only way they can tell you that they need something is by crying. They cry for a number of reasons, so if you’re a parent who has an infant who cries all the time, here are some ways to soothe your little darling.
What You’ll Need:
Baby toys
Clean diaper
Pacifier
Baby blanket
Baby food (Learn how to make baby food)
Address His Needs
A baby has many needs which only you can take care of for him. It may be a dirty diaper, hunger or lack of sleep. If your infant tries, this is the first tactic you can try. Check if these factors are affecting his disposition.

Hunger - A hungry baby will smack his lips and put his hands to his mouth as he cries. Breastfeed or prepare a bottle of formula milk for him to suck on. There are babies who just like to suckle, though. If your baby dribbles the milk down his chin, he must not be hungry, but only wants his pacifier.
Diaper-changing - Wet or soiled diapers are uncomfortable, making your baby cry. Check his diaper and see if you need to change it. Your baby might also have diaper rash; if this is the problem, soothe and treat it. (Tips on how to get rid of diaper rash)
Sleep - Babies become upset when they get inadequate or disturbed sleep. Sing a lullaby or rock your baby to sleep in your arms. After some thrashing, he will eventually calm down and fall asleep. (see The Guide To Baby Music)
Pain - There might be something in the environment that gives him pain. For example, there’s a safety pin in his nappy that’s pricking him, or his arm or leg is awkwardly positioned in the crib. Check him all over for signs of pain.
Changes in temperature (too hot or cold), need to burp, or teething are also possible needs fo your child.
Cuddle Your Baby
A crying baby may be looking for attention and the warmth of your embrace. If the above tactics don’t work pick your baby up and cuddle him. Hug and kiss your child. Talk to him or take him outside for a change of scenery. Bouncing him around or jiggling him also works, since babies love motion. Make him feel that he’s loved and taken care of. The more time you spend with your infant, the less likely for him to turn into a crying machine.
Provide Distraction
Babies also cry when they become restless or bored. To entertain him, grab some of his favorite toys or play games with him. If he wants some peace and quiet, place him in a quiet room or use white noise. White noise is a continuous rhythmic sound, like a clothes dryer or a vacuum cleaner’s humming.
Seek Treatment
The worst possible reason why your baby’s crying is he might be sick. Check his body for signs of sickness, such as rashes, uneven breathing, high temperature and sweating. If the problem persists, bring your child to a doctor to get adequate diagnosis and treatment.
It’s upsetting when your darling baby starts to bawl, but remember that as a parent, it’s your duty to soothe him. Try these tips and you’ll soon get your angel to smile and laugh once again.
