For many parents, taking care of a newborn baby is a fulfilling though an exhausting task. It’s not uncommon for parents to experience difficulty while caring for their baby. Newborn infants have very fragile bodies that should be handled with extreme caution. Remember, even the slightest pressure can cause pain to your child.
Many parents encounter difficulties when dealing with different responsibilities because of their children’s fragile bodies. One example of a task many parents find difficult is giving their newborn baby a bath. Baby baths are a must for any infant. They need to be always clean to prevent them from getting sick.
Bathing a baby is never an easy job. Babies have been injured and died because their guardians committed mistakes when they gave the babies a bath. Most often, the babies became ill because they were soaked in the water for too long.
If you’re worried about your baby bath time, don’t worry. Bathing can be easy and accident-free, as long as you’re aware of the proper routine. Here are several helpful tips that you should remember.
Get everything ready before giving your child a bath. Make sure that everything you need is within your reach, including the soap, mild shampoo, dry towel, diaper, clean clothes and cotton balls. This will make it easier for you to get what you need.
Test the water before placing your baby in it. It should be warm, but not too warm to cause scalding. Remember, baby skin is more sensitive and can blister easily.
For newborn babies whose umbilical cord hasn’t healed yet, sponge baths are more suitable. If the cord wound has dried and closed, you can then move to a tub bath.
Place the tub on a flat, sturdy surface. This will make it easier for you bathe the child.
Use a soft washcloth while you’re giving the baby a bath. Wipe it over your child’s skin gently to avoid scratch marks or bruises.
Be very, very careful with soap and shampoo. Even the mildest bath products can irritate your baby. Keep the bubbles and lather away from your child’s eyes, mouth and nose.
Never ever leave your child in the tub alone, even for the tiniest second.
The most important reminder is that you should keep your presence of mind all throughout the procedure. You’ll never be able to wash your child properly if you’re thinking about the garbage or the dinner party that you’re planning. Be constantly vigilant all throughout the routine so your baby will be safe and clean.
