Wise men say that life is just a big puzzle that we have to solve daily. This saying holds true when it comes to the common stool. A stool will always serve as the missing piece to any moment that requires immediate relaxation. You can pull up a stool in the middle of doing a lot of household chores for a much-needed breather. It could also come in handy whenever you want to go for a relaxing cigarette break. You can even take it on a camping trip. As you can see, the stool is a versatile object in spite of its simplicity.
A stool is a small and lightweight seat that can be transported almost anywhere. Coming with a lot of themes and designs, it is used in many households and establishments. A stool is very affordable since the materials used are cheap and the procedures to make one are not that difficult.
Buying a stool for your relaxation needs is a good idea, but making one yourself can be an even better idea. With its readily available parts and the simple procedures involved in making it, you can always make your own stool whenever the carpenter in you strikes.
Wooden Stool
The wooden stool is the stool’s most basic form. It is easy to create since your only job is to shape the parts accordingly and nail them together. To tell you the truth, you can even use the parts of old wooden items to create a wooden stool.
Materials Used:
6 wooden pegs
1 circular wooden slab (medium density)
hammer
nails
saw
chisel
paint
tape measure
The first thing you should do is gather six equal-sized wooden pegs. You can purchase them from a lumber shop or you can extract them from large unused wooden items. If those wooden pegs slightly differ in size, you can chisel them until they become completely identical.
Remember that a difference in the size of the legs can mess up the stool’s weight distribution. It can weaken the entire stool altogether. Once you have six good wooden pegs, saw two of them in half. Position a full-sized peg vertically then nail a half sized peg to it, eight-inches from the ground.
Repeat this process until you form the square base of the stool. Now, grab the circular wooden slab and nail it on top of the base. At this point, you have created a good wooden stool. You can paint it with house paint to suit the theme of your home.
Metal Stool
The metal stool is a bit harder to create than the wooden stool, but it is more durable. It is also easy to customize, making it more versatile than its wooden counterpart. Overall, the metal stool is the choice of those who are better with their hands.
Materials Used:
4 thin metal rods
1 circular metal sheet (preferably medium density)
mechanical drill
welding equipment
metal nuts
metal bolts
4 rubber bases
First, get the four metal rods and drill a hole in the middle of each. Make sure that the position of the hole on each rod is precise. A slight miscalculation can lead to an imbalanced stool. Pair the rods together and affix a metal nut and bolt through the holes of each pair. If the bolt restricts the movement of the legs, you can douse the connection with lubricating oil to make the legs of your stool foldable.
To connect the base to the stool surface, get the metal sheet and weld both leg pairs beneath it. Attach a rubber base beneath each leg so that the stool will remain steady on slippery surfaces. At this point, you have completed your metal stool. You now have the option to customize it with your own design.
Building a makeshift stool is a lot tougher than simply purchasing one from a furniture store. On the other hand, you are sure about the quality of your makeshift stool since it was made by your hands. The best part is that you can call the makeshift stool your own masterpiece.
