Determining Malignancy
Malignant lymph node refers to the type of lymph node that suggests a worsening disease in the body. When a lymph node is malignant, it represents that the body is under a severe condition. When a lymph node is said to be malignant, it is usually associated with describing diseases like cancer.

A malignant lymph node exhibits an unusual size. A malignant lymph node is larger than a regular bean-shape lymph node found anywhere around the body. The diameters of malignant lymph nodes are larger even when measured by all the axes. Another sign of malignancy in a lymph node is when an echogenic center is not present. Reactive lymph nodes are complete with echogenic centers and the shape is always round. A malignant lymph node is when the shape is not that round already.

All these go to show that a malignant lymph node is a lymph node that is carrying cancer cells. The basic function of a lymph node is to function as a powerful filtering system in the body. What a lymph node does in the body is to constantly fight harmful and foreign particles that may destroy the health condition of a person. When the lymph node starts swelling, it means that it is actively fighting, trapping and filtering harmful particles.

When a lymph node fails and the foreign particles are already too strong, this is when the lymph node becomes malignant. The hardest particles that a lymph node fights are cancerous cells. The spread of cancer is fast and the target is any lymph node that it finds closest to it. In this case, a surgeon performs an operation to take off the malignant lymph node.

Lymph node biopsy is usually performed to remove the dangerous or malignant lymph nodes. Other methods performed by doctors and physicians are chemotherapy and radiotherapy especially when a person is already suffering from cancer.
