Why is it not safe to add water directly to concentrated sulfuric acid ?

1 Answer

Answer :

Sulfuric acid is a chemical compound. Whose chemical signal is H₂SO₄ .  Pouring water with acid is not safe in case of concentrated H₂SO₄ acid dilution. This is because the concentrated H₂SO₄ acid is a water-absorbing substance that has a strong attraction to water. When water is poured into acid, a reaction between acid and water occurs. This reaction is highly thermodynamic. The reaction produces so much heat that the mixture can break and cause a catastrophic accident or the mixture can catch fire. Therefore, to dilute the acid, the acid is slowly poured into the water without adding water to the acid.
