Aluminum is a light metal. But why is pure aluminum not used in the construction of aircraft structures ?

In humid air, the aluminum metal reacts with the oxygen in the air to form a coating of Al2O3 . For this reason, pure aluminum is not used in the construction of aircraft structures.
