I was a witness in a sexual assault case. The case wrapped up in October and the assaulter was sentenced to 10 years in prison starting January 25th. Today, I received a text that he would be released from prison on a "stay of execution" because he had filed for an appeal. This man was very obviously guilty of his crime and the trial was over very quickly, as the jury had no qualms with the evidence. Since I am only a witness, I am usually the last to hear about any details regarding this case, despite the fact that I am in danger when this man is out in the public. So naturally, I am a little scared and would like to know what this process will look like.
