DESCRIPTION: This hardy, aquatic perennial is mainly grown for its decorative foliage. P. virginica, the Arrow Arum as it is commonly called, is a native of North America. It produces large, glossy dark green, arrow-shaped leaves. In the summer, unnoticeable, Arum-like, greenish flowers are produced and these are followed by green berries. This variety grows 1 or 2 feet high. Another variety, P. sagittifolia, produces red berries.
POTTING: These plants can be grown in 2-gallon containers and set in water from 1 to 6 inches deep. They should have full or partial sun. These plants are great for planting in muddy soil in your bog garden.
PROPAGATION: They may be divided in the spring. Stratified seeds may also be sown.
VARIETIES: P. virginica; P. sagittifolia.
