Answer any four of the following in 30-40 words each: (a) What were the blessings the albatross brought with it ? -SST 10th

1 Answer

Answer :

(a) The blessings of the albatross were like a ray of light in utter darkness. The sailors were miserably trapped in the land of mist and snow. Their ship was in the midst of icebergs and therefore they could not find any sign of life around them. Under this situation, the blessings of the albatross revived their hope for life and made their survival possible by lifting the fog, splitting the iceberg and blowing the favourable south wind. (b) Brutus rejected Calpurnia's interpretation of her dream and instead gave a very positive outlook to the dream. According to him the flowing blood out of Caesar's statue in which the Romans were happily bathing signified a gain of fresh life out of Caesar's blood by the Romans and that great men will desire antiquity marked by his blood. The citizens will save their handkerchiefs dipped in Caesar's blood as a symbol of Caesar's greatness for their children and grandchildren. (c) Patol Babu's wife sensed Patol Babu's over-confidence and extreme enthusiasm in the way he kept boasting about himself and the way he over-analyse the success and wealth that he will receive from the role he is offered. His wife warned him regarding his over confidence by asking him not to count his chickens before they are hatched. (d) The writer was never confident about his art writing ghost stories and thought of it as something which is not a part of his specialised genre. On the contrary whenever Jenkins asked him to write a ghost story for his magazine, he always managed to do so without even realising where the plot came from. This left the writer to wonder and finally he came to realise that he is actually good at writing ghost stories. (e) The narrator no doubt is a gentleman with good manners. The narrator went to the trough to fill his pitcher with water but saw the snake quenching his thirst. Like a man with good morals he lets the snake have water first because it came before him. Therefore he waited for the snake to quench his thirst first as if he was standing in a queue behind it.
