Scholar's Revolt of 1868 in Vietnam: 1. Scholar's Revolt was one the earliest religious movements that were fought against the Western influence in Vietnam. 2. Officials of the imperial court were enraged by the spread of Catholicism and French power so they led the movement. 3. There was a general uprising in Ngu An and Ha Tien provinces where thousands of Catholics were killed. 4. Even though Catholic missionaries were present from early seventeenth century, they had converted 300,000 people by the mid-eighteenth century. 5. Even though the French crushed the movement, it became an inspiration for other patriots to protest.
