I hate when anyone tells me to smile. I just snapped at a guy a couple days ago for doing this. To me, it is so patronizing. The person is saying, “There is something wrong with you, and you should fix it.” Why? Go bang your head against a wall, because it is bothering me. I don’t have to have a huge smile on my face all the time. This is one of my biggest pet peeves. It makes me so angry. Just the idea of this makes me shudder in rage. Grrr…

I think in the case of a man's word, I think it harkens back to when women had no power, couldn't own property, couldn't ... like a man. Of course, this is all changing in modern day.
