Automiotive charcoal cansiters are filled with particles about 1mm across. Crack the case and they all fall out. Not sure what kind of filter you are talking about. There is a monolith type filter that looks like a honeycomb. You can cut that shorter if you use a fine blade and don’t care about smooth edges.
