answer:I have been described as morbid and profound, yes. Personally, I just think that I am an emotionally observant realistic pessimist. In other words, I can observe the sadder and darker side of life and be okay with it sans blowing it out of proportion. I like to think that there is no way to judge suffering. Given the right circumstances and personalities, someone’s nail breaking could be just as traumatic for a woman in Ohio as getting raped could be for a girl in Darfur. Sometimes people don’t like that idea and may get offended at the example – I personally believe that we should consider some things more serious and important than others, due to the likely ramifications (i.e., preventing child abuse should be prioritized over reducing petty theft). But in the end, I think that we can never know what anyone else is feeling and the implications of any given situation. Some people have more resilience and others have higher tolerance for certain types of pain. This is why any time someone tells me why they are sad or hurting, I take it very seriously – even if it seems trivial.
