answer:People Are Talking was a local Philly afternoon show hosted by Maury Povitch (a long time before he and Connie married.) It was so successful that he went national. The new host was Richard Bey and eventually he and the show went national when it morphed into more of a media circus (in the Jerry Springer mold). But way back when it was just Maury in Philly, it was actually an interesting thoughtful quality show (sort of more like Donahue in that they took on issues of significance rather than mostly paternity and baby Daddy revelations.) Povitch, Bey and the show devolved rather than evolved after all the success and exposure. So I guess the lesson could be construed as: Be careful what you wish for. After the show had been in Bey’s hands for awhile, I just stopped watching it altogether as it just got more superficial, trashy and tabloidy with each passing week. Ugh.
