(If you don’t want to be considered “catty”, then try to avoid talking about other people who aren’t present.) Talk about the colors in the room, school events that you’ve been a part of or would like to join, local, national and world events… anything topical or relevant. Talk about common subjects in school, for example. Once it has started, the conversation should take a life of its own.
