Explain difference between fissile and fertile materials.

1 Answer

Answer :

The materials which can give nuclear fission e.g. U 35, Pu 39, U 33 are fissile materi¬als. Fertile material
itself is not fissionable, but it can be converted to a fissionable material by irradiation of neutrons in a
nuclear reactor.
