I find the panasonic DMR-EZ28K DVD recorder with an ASTC Tuner to be the best brand since tv has gone digital and is no longer anolog. It plays DVD's with numerouse different recording formats, has an input for DV so you can record from your digital camera/camcorder, an also has 1080p via an HDMI output.
