You have to be very careful with this. If you're not sure if the paint has lead in it, there are test kits you can buy to check. Before you begin, be sure to wear protective clothing. You need to wear a respirator, eye protection, gloves and clothes that you can throw away when you're done. You can use a chemical stripper to help remove the paint but NEVER use a hot gun or try to sand it off. This will release lead dust in the air, which can harm your lungs. Always dispose of lead paint and supplies at a proper facility. If you're not sure, it's always good to contact a professional. It might be in your best interest to hire someone with the proper equipment and experience when dealing with somethign as potentially dangerous as lead paint.
