HDL is defined as, High Density Lipoprotein. There are fivemajor groups of Lipoproteins flowing in the blood stream, and HDLcholesterol is the smallest of these lipoproteins. Eventhough HDLis small; it is responsible for carrying approximately thirtypercent of the cholesterol in the blood stream. Sometimes referredto 'good' cholesterol, this particle is very dense because itcontains high concentrations of protein, and grows in size as itaccumulates other forms of cholesterol. Its job in the body is totransport LDL (the 'bad' cholesterol) to the liver, where it isexcreted into bile, and eventually makes its way into theintestines. The other path that it can take is to supplycholesterol to Steroidogenesis organs where it is converted intosteroids, like sex hormones. Some Cholesterol BasicsCho
