For survival reasons or otherwise, the immune system would savea "file" of certain intruders and threats based on traits andcharacteristics. The protein, called Lck, is what "teaches" T-cells(white blood cells that attack viruses and other threats) toidentify the characteristics of pathogens, whether clearly orvaguely identified within the body. As a result, Lck helps preventthe body's immune system from being constantly weighed down by a"biological hard drive" remembering all cell and invaderstatuses.
