The parquet board is made of wood and belongs to the class of natural flooring. It appeared relatively recently and immediately became an excellent alternative to block parquet. Recently, its popularity in Russia has been growing rapidly and it would be quite timely to make a decision to get acquainted in more detail with the properties of this floor covering.
Structure
The structure of this coating is multilayer and consists of 3 or more layers glued together. The topmost layer is necessarily made of valuable wood species. It can be represented by traditional varieties: oak, maple, beech, walnut, cherry, birch or exotic - jatoba, wenge, teak, acacia, merbau, dussia. The durability of a parquet board depends on the thickness of the top layer. The thicker it is, the longer the coating will last, and the more sanding it can withstand. And the price of the flooring depends on the type of wood from which the top layer is made.
The process of manufacturing a parquet board is based on the use of a special technology. It consists in a special gluing of wood layers, in which the fibers of adjacent layers are located perpendicular to each other. This configuration avoids linear movement of the board due to changes in humidity and temperature fluctuations.
Dimensions (edit)
The parquet board is produced in a width of 20 cm, but of different thicknesses (from 7 to 26 mm) and lengths up to 2.5 m. In addition to the different thickness of the board itself, the thickness of the top layer varies, which determines the degree of wear resistance and durability of the floor covering. For 7 mm boards, the top layer is made of veneer and therefore cannot be scraped.
The area of application is determined by the thickness, which is presented in a large range. The most widespread products are 13 - 15 mm products with a working layer thickness of 4 mm, which are used for almost any premises with average traffic. Samples with a thickness of 20 mm have a thicker top layer of 6 mm and are recommended for installation in public areas. 22 mm boards are laid on logs and used for finishing residential and public buildings. Such a board consists of 3 layers: the upper one is 4 mm thick, the inner one is made of HDF board and the bottom one is made of oak or spruce plywood. The thickest 25 mm samples have a structure with increased resistance to dynamic loads and a 6 mm top layer. They are laid on logs and used for public spaces with high traffic.
Dignity
Despite its multi-layer structure, due to which analogies are often drawn between laminate and parquet board, the latter is an environmentally friendly material and is a real wood floor.
Ease of installation complements the list of undeniable advantages of parquet boards. Samples are stacked tightly to each other, and the length is cut based on the size of the room. On the side and end faces of the product, there are grooves for their fastening.
Choosing a parquet board as a floor covering allows you to use any style and design solutions in the interior. An additional highlight to this coating is given by grouting with white or black oil, which allows a completely different manifestation of the structure of the wood.
This coating is easy to care for, just use a dry soft cloth or vacuum cleaner. For wet cleaning, the rag must be wrung out well.
