Which is more reactive phosphorus or chlorine?

1 Answer

Answer :

Reactivity of an element depends on following parameters : Electronegativity - EN for cl is 3.5 whereas that for S is 2.8, it's quite obvious that cl has more power to gain electrons wrt that of S. Stability - to complete 'octet' for cl only 1 electron is required, whereas it is 2 electrons in case of S.
