How to Celebrate Earth Day
April 22 is Earth Day. It is a special day set aside for everyone to observe, appreciate and raise awareness for the Earth. Here’s how you can do your part in appreciating the Earth and celebrating Earth Day.
Plant Trees
Trees help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, secures soil that prevents erosion and landslides and helps biodiversity. The Earth is losing a lot of trees everyday, and it would help to give back even just a little. Volunteer in tree-planting or take care of seedlings until they are big enough to be replanted in approved areas.
Conserve Energy
The energy crisis is fast becoming one of the biggest problems in the world today. You can do your part by riding a bicycle instead of driving or commuting to work. Not only is it good exercise, but a great way to conserve on fuel.
You can also enjoy a quiet evening by turning off all your electronics for a night and sleep early. Go star-gazing or have a romantic candlelit dinner with your loved one. You’ll be surprised how many things you can do while conserving energy.
Get Educated
Make some time to learn more about the environment and environmental issues. Go online, borrow books from the library, talk to conservationists. Learn more about the different ecological areas in the world and get involved after getting all these useful information!
You can also help educate others with your cause. Visit schools, volunteer to teach about how to be Earth-friendly, and help the younger generation celebrate Earth Day with you. Teach kids how to make arts and crafts from recycled material. Show them that being Earth-friendly is fun to do!
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Start following the reduce, reuse and recycle principle in your very own house. Set up three separate bins for plastic, paper and recyclable materials. Try to purchase things that are Earth-friendly, and buy in bulk so that you generate as little trash as possible. Find ways to lessen your garbage productive ways, such as using reusable bags when going to the grocery or finding ways to reuse plastic bottles and containers. Educate the people around you. The best way to educate is with your own good example.
Clean up
Volunteer to clean your surroundings. Pick up trash in the mountains, on the beach, or even other people’s yards. If there aren’t any groups that are organizing to do this, why not take the initiative and do it yourself! You can simply email your neighbors, talk to them or hand out recycled flyers to spread the word.
Host an Earth Day Event
Host an Earth Day event. It can be a food fair, featuring fresh organic food and food made from organic ingredients. It can be a music event, or a fair showcasing the ways we can save the Earth. There are a million ways you can make an Earth Day event to get everyone excited.
