How to Punch Faster
As a boxer or martial artist, you need to develop not just power but also speed when throwing punches. Speed and power are directly proportional when it comes to throwing punches. Increase the speed and you shall automatically increase your power too.
Learning how to punch fast may take some work but with patience and determination, you will yield successful results. Here are some techniques that you may employ to punch faster:
Improve your conditioning.
To be able to punch faster, you should train regularly. You then need to work on your conditioning skills since you may need to devote long hours in the gym. Train your different muscle groups by lifting weights and performing various exercises directly aimed at strengthening your arms, back, chest and hips. Mix high interval workouts with bursting exercises to maximize your energy.
Follow the correct fighting stance.
Punching speed is rooted in the correct fighting stance. Your muscles should be relaxed so that you are ready to throw a fast punch anytime.
To practice your fighting stance, get a punching bag and punch slowly first to make sure that your punching form is correct. Punch faster as you go along. Just make sure that you keep your form in perfect shape.
To increase your punching speed, you can also use weights like dumbbells or any weighted gloves while punching in the air. Gradually increase the weight in your hands.
Practice throwing your fast punches.
Throw your arm forward with the use of your hips so that you can give a faster punch. You can practice in sets with the speed of your punch gradually increasing. For instance, you can unleash fast punches for half a minute then rest for 10 seconds before going at it again.
