Signs and symptoms of leprosy The symptoms of leprosy usually start appearing 5 to 6 years after the leprosy infection and the symptoms gradually increase. Leprosy is usually accompanied by the following signs and symptoms: Red spots on the skin or smooth white spots. Pinds are seen or swollen in the infected areas of the skin. The disease can affect most parts of the body and most parts of the skin. In the case of Borderline Leprosy , almost all the features of Tuberculoid Leprosy and Lepromatous Leprosy exist. In the initial stage it shows the same characteristics as tuberculoid leprosy and later in the worse condition it shows the characteristics of lepromatous leprosy. What can be done to prevent leprosy? Liquid discharge from the body of an infected person such as runny nose and mouth can spread the disease. You can't come in contact with all this. Although it is not usually spread by touch, leprosy should be treated with care. Leprosy can be transmitted through close and prolonged contact with an infected person. Therefore , caution should be exercised in dealing closely with the infected person. If someone in the family is infected with this disease, the chances of getting leprosy due to bacterial infection increase a lot. In this case , great care must be taken against bacterial infections. Infected patients should avoid skin rashes and contact with the discharge from the rash. Leprosy can be prevented by taking BCG vaccine. Medical leprosy infection is chronic but not highly contagious. Mortality from leprosy is generally very low. The treatment of leprosy usually depends on the type of disease , the degree , the age of the patient, and so on. Considering all the issues, leprosy is treated in two main ways. For example, long-term treatment with antibiotics or dapsone for life. People with leprosy and their families face many emotional and social barriers.
