How to Relieve Hip Pain
Hip pain can vary from an annoyance to a serious pain. Since your hips also aid in a number of movements and support to your body, you can’t completely go a whole day without moving them. Here are some ways for you to relieve your hip pain as soon as possible.
Take your time and be patient when you’re dealing with hip pains. Don’t think the pains will go away because you push yourself harder. Dealing with muscle tears or bone injuries require time and patience to heal. Follow your doctor’s instructions, and don’t put unnecessary stress on your hips.
Unnecessary stress means no strenuous exercises like running, jogging, swimming or aerobics. Sexual activities may be included as well. Don’t be afraid to ask your doctor when you can start having sex again, or if your hips are healed enough to resume sexual activities.
Support your hips by using crutches or a cane. You usually use either of these to put your weight on when stepping. When stepping on your injured side, let the cane or the crutch support your weight before following it with your good, strong side. You can also ask for assistance in walking if you need to.
Use ice to help your aching hips. Place crushed ice in a resealable bag. Get in a comfortable position lying down, put a wash towel on your hips and place the ice bag on top of the area of pain. Let it stay there for at least 15 minutes. This should help relieve the pain, if only temporarily.
Take up simple stretching exercises to stretch out your hip muscles. Yoga in particular is good for the hips, providing that you only adopt simple yoga poses. One such pose is sitting with your feet meeting at their soles. A modification is leaving one leg bent, the other stretched. Do this for a few minutes throughout the day.
Do some water exercises to flex your hips. It takes the weight off the hips and makes the movement easier to do.
Get some rest, or take an over-the-counter pain reliever.
