How to Put on a Dog Harness
Most people settle for a regular collar and leash while taking their darling pooch for a walk, but there are others who prefer to be more in control, especially if their dog is a bit excitable or fidgety. In this case, a dog harness is a better option. Of course, knowing how to put it on properly is very important, so your pooch won’t end up a tangled mess. Here’s how to harness a dog the right way.
What You’ll Need:
Dog harness
Dog
Doggie treat (optional)
Leash
Procedure:
Before you harness your dog, make sure he is in the mood to go out of the house for some exercise. Otherwise, you might end up just dragging him around. If your dog is slightly neurotic, keep the harness out of his sight as you approach. He might become overly-excited, making it more difficult for you to put the harness in place. Keep it in your pocket.

Make your dog sit down. If he still won’t calm down, offer him a doggie treat.
Hold the harness out in front of you. If you’re using the traditional type, it has four pieces of material, two straight lines holding two pieces of circle together. If not readily apparent, just snap the buckle close.
Put the harness in your lap, positioning it in your hands in such as way that the closed circle is the one closest to your knees, while the circle with the buckle is closes to your abdomen, The metal ring should be visible on the top.
Position your dog, its head facing away from you, its backside close to your legs. If he squirms around, give him another doggie treat. You can also apply slight pressure using your legs so he stays in place.
Put the harness in the same position as you laid in on your lap. Put the closed circle over the dog’s head, moving the metal ring to the middle back.
Lift the dog’s right leg, then put it through the large hole, creating a t-bone of fabric down his back. The metal ring should still be at the mid-back’s center.
Reach under his left leg, pulling two sides of the buckle together. Snap them to the rear of the left leg. The back and the underbelly of the dog must have fabric pieces shaping a capital H or I.
Get the leash and attach it to the metal ring on the back of your dog. You’re now ready to go out!
Give yourself more control over your dog by harnessing him properly. Soon, you’ll both be enjoying the outside world without much fuss. After putting your canine in a dog harness, time for you to learn how to train your puppy.
