You are tired of your home’s dull tables. As an artist, a plain tabletop to you is a canvas for your artistic expression. You see all the images that would perfectly fit each meal of the day and the best way to put your beautiful ideas out there is through a mosaic tabletop.
Quite unconventional, a mosaic tabletop looks like a decorative piece more than anything, but it is just as usable as any of your regular tables.
A mosaic tabletop is composed of patterned tiles that form an image when arranged collectively. These tables are often found in furniture stores and are sold at high prices. You have to pay for the materials, the labor, the patterns, and taxes whenever you purchase a mosaic tabletop, which is not really suitable for someone who has a modest budget. It’s a good thing that the makeshift world has a cheaper and better solution to almost every item that you can think of.
If you build your own mosaic tabletop, you can avoid some of those expenses. You do not have to pay for the artistic integrity of your own designs and you don’t need to use overpriced materials. Instead, you could use a set of regular glass tiles as long as you have high quality tile grout and good coloring materials. If you already have a tile tabletop, things will be a whole lot easier since your job will be to place a pattern on the grout then stamp it on the tabletop. As you can see, a mosaic tabletop is not too hard to create and is friendly towards your funds.

Let’s Go Shopping
Before you build your mosaic tabletop, you should first shop for all the necessary components. Fortunately, all of them can be found in a hardware center. You can always ask the salespersons to assist you if you have a hard time searching for each component.
Quick Reminder
When you have secured all of the materials, you can set up the tiles and tile adhesive on your chosen table. Your table should be sturdy because the whole mosaic design is quite heavy. Hardwood or marble tables are usually the most popular choices for mosaic tabletops.
Art and Carpentry
To start the creation process, apply some tile adhesive underneath each tile and set them accordingly on the table’s surface. Let the adhesive settle then wait for it to dry. Once the tiles are properly affixed on the table surface, you can get a piece of paper and sketch your design, complete with colors. If you cannot think of a pattern, you can always check the internet for ideas. There are dozens of websites that display possible mosaic designs.
Once you have chosen a pattern, you can start painting that pattern on the tile grout. Be careful when placing the pattern on the tile grout since a slight error can ruin the whole image. The slippery plastic surface of the tile grout provides very little room for errors; ask someone to assist you if you are not adept at drawing or painting. When you have finally painted the pattern, apply some grout glue on the edges of your grout’s lower surface.
You can now stick the grout to the table’s surface then wait for the designs to settle on the tiles. Pull the grout carefully so that the pattern will remain intact on the tiles. When the designs dry and settle on the tiles, you can finally rest easy for you have just completed your own masterpiece.
Now, you can feel proud about the bold patterns on your tabletop while you eat your meals. Breakfast, lunch and supper all taste better when the good taste of your mosaic art is served before them. Bon appetit!
