: NFBS (National Maternity Support Scheme) has been renamed as Janani Suraksha Yojana. The scheme provides one-time assistance to any child belonging to a Scheduled Caste or Indigenous community and living below the poverty line to a mother who is 19 years of age or above and gives birth to her first two surviving children. Before the delivery, 500 rupees is received from the gram panchayat through women's health work. However, this assistance is given only if the health check-up is done at least three times in the health center or hospital during pregnancy.
