In the general sense, small and cottage industries are used in the same sense, but in the subtle sense, there is a difference between the two. According to the Factories and Industries Act in Bangladesh, a factory which employs a maximum of 20 workers is called a small or cottage industry. However, it is worth mentioning here that hired labor and electricity are used in small scale industries. Moreover, advanced technology is also used in some cases. The cottage industry is mainly run by domestic workers and no electricity is used. The cottage industry produces a variety of products by local raw materials with low capital and family members. In Bangladesh weaving industry , bamboo and cane industry , bidi industry , salt industry etc. are cottage industries.
