Answer :

This is not a new custom. Which the Prophet (peace be upon him) himself practiced. It is narrated on the authority of Mahmud ibn Khalid (R) from Amrah to his sister. He said , " I have memorized Surah Al-Kahf from the mouth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)." He used to recite this Surah every Friday. Imam Abu Dawood (R) said that in another sanad of this hadith it is narrated from 'Amrah' to Umm Hisham bint Harisha Ibn Numan. (This means that the narrator's name was Umm Hisham) Sunan Abu Dawood.
