Why paper is soft when dipped in water ?

1 Answer

Answer :

Before answering this question you need to know about the material of paper and water. We all know about the composition of water. It is made up of two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen . Now when the paper gets wet or comes in contact with water , the internal hydrogen bonds of the cellulose fibers are broken a lot and the fibers separate from each other. As a result the paper becomes soft and the paper becomes easy to tear. When paper is dipped in water, it becomes soft, mainly because of some structural features.
