If it's a true dive bar (the kind where cockroaches serve the drinks), the well whiskey is likely to be the most palatable (chilled will cut the taste of your gut rotting). Some say vodka for a house shot, but those people are time travellers from prohibition and would drink anything. If they got at least some selection/liqueurs, fireball is usually the way to go, or peach schnapps with whiskey.
