Answer :

Yes, you need to dig deep holes around the base of the ailing tree, and water, water, and more water.  But, to lessen the shock to the tree, you might want to consider adding 1/2 cup of vegetable oil to each small hole before you add the water.  The vegetable oil will provide the tree with a snack of sorts and will allow it to absorb the water more quickly.  Remember to dig the holes around 24  to 30 inches deep. -Birdy
