WARNING: I AM NOT AN EXPERT! My understanding is that hens and chicks are succulents, so tyhey should tolerate a little handling if they are not allowed to freeze. When they come by mail from the nurseries they are in tiny pots. It seems you could do the same. If I did it, i would plant them in pots about twice the diameter of their rootballs wih at least 2 inches of soil between the roots and the bottom of the pot. Try to bring as much of the original soil with the roots as is reasonable, Try to keep the same orientation to the sunlight as the had in the bed and make sure each pot has an OPEN drain hole about the size of a pencil (more holes will not hurt it). Try to duplicate the same light exposure and soil moisture as they had in the bed. It is hot now so check the moisture daily! Do not let them stand in mud; a litlle drier might be better for them. Check with your local nuseries for free plastic pots--They might have extras piled out back. This is temporary, right? if you use real, decorative pots, you may decide you like them better that way. Just be sure they have room to grow. Good Luck.
